They've moved past equipment manufacture and into brand licensing and certification. It's akin to THX in the early days.

Lucas created THX because he was frustrated with his movies sounding like shit in theaters. He created the certification process and then handed out the stamp of approval to theaters that met his standards. That's what Dolby is doing now.
