I think if you're saying 2 March or March 2, it doesn't matter - people will get what you say no matter what version you use.

That's different to when you're using a numeric code that is only ever written. 3/2/17 or 2/3/17? Oh no, I have to read to the second number to find out what month they are talking about.
(Of course when we're talking naming conventions, like dated versions of the same document, the format that makes most sense is yyyy-mm-dd but because it's not used everyday, few people use it)
