my only counter thought is that there is a significantly large portion of the US Electorate that doesnt care, or believe, this stuff

and those are the most vocals parts to which the republicans always pay attention to (because they vote in mid-terms).
the only way this changes anything is is they actually find them guilty, in a court, without exception or wiggle room.
