You can still cast Ward of Dawn instead of the shield in Destiny 2.

It isn't clear if all 3 options (blessing, weapons, or armor) will be back. My guess is that it will either always be the same one or they will be split among the skill trees.

I think weapons is least likely to come back. The video showed an overshield so either blessing or armor is back. I think the warlock's third ability takes the place of weapons of light. Though with the new gun system you might need to combine both at times.
