Lawful good is not "obedient and boring." The lawful good alignment is the best alignment for promoting good role-playing within a group of players, especially when you're the voice or morality among a bunch of murder hobos.
What other alignment demonstrates such intense, internal moral and ethical turmoil? While everyone else in the party is running around, carving up orcs and hobogoblins before they can utter even a word, or poisoning randos, the LG character is examining life's rich tapestry.
Also, "lawful good" is not the same as "lawful nice" or "lawful boring." LG characters make mistakes. LG characters can be mean bastards. For example, Bryan Mills -- Liam Neeson's character from Taken -- is a model lawful good character. He's not boring. He's not nice to most people. But he follows the law (i.e., if you watch the movie closely, he responds to violence proportionally and only kills in self defense)
