bird strike on takeoff was my most unpleasant commercial flying experience.

terrible smell through the cabin just after takeoff, smoking engine, flight attendant running down the aisle while the plane was still in steep ascent, who then stage whispered "what the hell is that smell?" to the other one, who responded with "I have no idea!"
pilot didn't care. came on, mentioned it, said we were landing again. we got a new plane. according to a friend at Air Canada it did $1 million in damage to the engine. or rather he said "you were on that plane? cost us $1 million to fix that engine."
