Syria/Iraq today is about targeting bad people, Afghanistan was about taking over a country and installing a new government.

For the Trump charm offensive, I think there's a recognition that Canada has to play the hand it has been dealt, and the left trust Trudeau to do it more than they would someone from the conservative side of politics.
