I'd say the ratio of mean to nice hamsters is about 10:1

my brother's hamster killed and ate mine.
a friend's sister in university had a nice one (Hector). one day Hector escaped into the basement and ate rat poison. I drove them to the vet, vet was basically "it's a hamster, get a new one."
*tears*
"well, you could give it daily subcutaneous vitamin K injections for the next three weeks, but they're about $20 each, and you'll have to do it yourself."
hamster lived like another 5 years.
