Hmm... I seem to be on another Ian Curtis bender.

I think I've seen 3 or 4 documentaries on Ian Curtis, Joy Division, and New Order, and at least as many movies (24 Hour Party People... WATCH IT!)
Anyway, Ceremony was written before Ian Curtis killed himself. It carries a very non-Joy Division electronic sound to it, but I can see Curtis singing it (it would have sounded very diffierently). After New Order hit New York in 1981, they went very electronic and techno. Arguably, the new addition, Gillian Gilbert, was a key influence here because she was brought on to play keyboards, something Joy Division never used.
All this boils down to Blue Monday, though. Released in 1983, it's well into the New Order phase of the band, but lyrically it's very much a Joy Division song. Even the way Sumner sings it, you can imagine him evoking Curtis. It's a bit of an outlier for New Order.
