I know that makes sense on the surface level, but you'll be the same "level" as others most of the time you play Destiny.

There are levels within levels. Light was the most important measurement in Destiny. A level 40 could have a light level of 400. There were other factors as well. The type of gear that you wear affects your stats. Some charge your super faster, others charge your grenade faster, and some give you protection against certain kinds of attacks. Also, some weapons kill faster than others, which was a bullshit thing that I hope they're fixing in Destiny 2.

The point is that you should look at it as having RPG elements rather than simply as a Halo-ish first-person shooter, for better and for worse.
