OMG, house drama. You want it?

Put in an offer last Sunday. Got a verbal yes the next day. WOO! Then...a day and a half later... get the scribblings of a mad man asking for a closing date that we can't meet, paying penalties if we don't, no termite inspection, etc etc.. basically wanting to sell the house as-is with the ability to back out at any time and get as much money as he wanted from us. WEIRD.
We counter by writing in "as-is... but you'll replace the glass fuse panel". Seems easy.
We hear nothing. Nothing... nothing... It's been since Wednesday last week. The realtor that represents the owner says she can't reach the owner. The listing disappears from their website, off of the MLS.
I'm so.... irritated... right now. I wanted that house, but not enough to deal with crazy.
I have a backup house, but we were less thrilled about it than we were about the other one... more lively neighborhood, closer to things. We feel like we're settling even though we're not and originally were going to make an offer on that house before seeing crazy house.
I've had a lot of coffee and I'm type ranting, sorry....
MEANWHILE - we've moved into the back yard of a guy we met like twice at a bar in a nearby town to where we were staying in NC. So that's... weird.. but a perk of living in a van.
