The New Nintendo 2DS XL is probably the best version of the device. It's the lightest, ditches the 3D, and feels solid for kiddos. However, -- (edited)

with the speakers moved to the bottom half of the clam-shell they vibrate your hands quite a lot. Using headphones gets around this. Additionally, the stylus is a tiny golf pencil. So more ideal for the kids and not the adults that think they are kids.

I especially like the grippy finish on the top half. Moving the cart slot and micro SD card into an enclosed space in the front is great too.

That it can use amiibo and play the scant number of games that require the faster processor the New tag indicates (including Super NES Virtual Console games) is a plus.

The price, $149 is solid for what is likely to be the last of the iterations of the 3DS family.

I however, am going to be not keeping it, and instead sticking with the New Nintendo 3DS XL. While it's heavy and big and shiny coated, I prefer where its speakers are and the larger stylus. And there are times when I still like to push up the 3D slider.
