But if it wasn't a good deal, why should he (or anyone) take it?

Note that assumes that good judgment would say it was not a good deal and I have no details either way
Responses:
Players often take 1-yr deals at less than market rate, to "prove" their value/talent and hopefully earn a more lucrative deal the following offseason -- nm
