There are different ways of measuring unemployment, so the BLS actually produces six different numbers. U3 is the traditional measure. -- (edited)

And includes only people who are unemployed and looking for work. U6 is the broadest measure and includes people who have stopped looking and people who work part time because they can't find full time work, among other groups.
