and a longer one.....

Just a few more days until he can come home! We have been busy safety proofing the house, removing area rugs, opening up floor space, removing clutter. Yesterday I had the chance to go visit him. I am astounded by how seriously he wants to advise and help his family, how he is convinced he will be able to start working in just a few days. Heh. That is so typical of him and his personality. There have been true miracles watching him come back to us. All of the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other specialists have been amazing and so helpful as well.

He is able to walk, talk, use the telephone, and be alone. There are still parts of his speech that are affected by his brain injury, but Johnny is aware of what has happened and willing to work together with all of his caretakers to continue the recovery process. This week he has several meetings scheduled with the original shock trauma staff as well as meetings at Kernan for a final evaluation and other recommendations for home care.

The next update will probably be after he comes home- wish us luck!
