Frankly, it involves more of a willingness to discuss and self-examine from the conservative side of politics than I've seen over the last 10 years

When I have discussions with conservatives on other boards, it's all straw men and 'what about this?'. Very rarely - and only after gruelling conversation - does it get down to the 'I think this way because..."
Not that the conservative side has a monopoly on these tactics, but I see lots of rational liberals as well as emotional liberals. I see a lot of emotional conservatives, but barely any rational ones.
