Heh, article on slashdot linking to an article on PC World saying that 'windows 7 is not much faster than vista'

PC World is freaking retarded these days.

A) Not much faster is still faster
B) Perceived "speed" of the OS (or, in vista's case, perceived slowness) is not just in the latency between performing actions, or the speed of calculations in the background, but also a function of how clean and tidy the user interface is. A bulky interface can really slow things down. (For example, this is why Google and Twitter work so well - simple, clean interface.) And Windows 7's interface looks a hell of a lot cleaner than Windows Vista's. I'm especially a fan of the change they made to the context menu on the desktop. Putting "Screen Resolution" and "Personalize" as two separate items in the context menu is *a freaking awesome idea* that they should have done a decade ago - but then again, I probably change my screen resolution more often than the average person. :)
