sympathetic to their beliefs. We have to confront these ideas and any actions he takes or that are taken at a governmental level to cede power to these people.
And I believe in taking down these monuments, removing confederate flags, etc. that give these people a rallying cry and sense of authority.
But I believe that this kind of Racism (capital R to show that it's a true hatred of those of color, or different race, religion, etc.) is a small minority, even as racism (small r to show that it is underlying ingrained prejudice and privilege) is widespread. I don't want to elevate the Racists by giving them the satisfaction these trolls get from baiting others into fighting them. Shunning them (while remaining vigilant as to real changes) seems more powerful to me, while really fighting to change racist attitudes and inequalities that exist which are much more pervasive and really affect many more people. I fear this is more distraction than real danger.
As I said, I'm torn. I don't think it's a slam dunk either way, but this is how I lean. I'll have sheet cake.
