The Theta S is crap. The newer generation SC isn't much better. And the plain "Theta" is, of course, worse.

Everyone gets the Theta S. It's the defacto bargain 360 camera. The problem with the camera is simply resolution. The stitching isn't all the bad, truthfully. But your HD pictures don't look HD.
We've worked with vastly superior cameras from the difficult to use Allie Camera (you don't get this camera unless you're committed) or the five-figure costing Panasonic AW-360C10.
What you should get (if you're shopping around) depends on your use case. There's a world of difference in resolution and functionality from camera to camera and doing something *live* is different than recording video or snapping stills. Running something *live* in *360* and *hd* for *24/7* is just about the rarest of use cases. Something like AXIS P3707-PE will meet all those requirements for about $1200 up front and a shitload of infrastructure on the backend.
If all you want is stills, get two GoPros and a mounting bracket, or a Samsung Gear 360.
