In response to "With the current disastrous events in the Columbia River Gorge I'm beginning to rethink next years vacation :( " by Meg

It's actually not utterly terrible. We're getting information from the Forest Service.

It's not an absolutely scorched hellscape of ash and charcoal. The fire has been moving quickly -- which can be a good thing. There are a lot of standing trees (estimates right now are about half the trees overall survived). That is the good news.

The bad news is that it has burned about 60% of the waterfront of the Columbia Gorge Scenic Area. The entire Gorge is beautiful, but if you're looking for the steep and hilly forested parts, over half is going to be ... diminished.

When is your trip scheduled again? I can keep you updated on how it's looking. And I'll definitely be going out to the affected areas for work at least once or twice over the next couple weeks. I'll take photos so you can see for yourself.
