The subtle implication of season one is that people elevate one another through their actions.
Eleanor was a garbage person. Then, she met Chidi, who helped her see the things in herself that she didn't like and knew had to change. These choices set her on the path to redemption.
In the scene where Eleanor confesses, Danson does an amazing job of acting. In all of the plotting and gameplanning for their simulation, the one thing that they'd never accounted for was personal growth.
The philosophy of The Good Place is much deeper than people realize. I'm kicking myself that we didn't take the time to do videos explaining it between seasons as we'd planned.
