In response to "But eventually one of the other two will be dead and aiming at him. Isn't it in his best interest for it to be the guy who misses 1 in 3 shots? -- nm" by Ender

There are three possible scenarios:

Scenario 1: White shoots at Brown and kills him. The next step is Black shoots Wite and kills him. Probability of survival: 0%

Scenario 2: White shoots at Black and kills him. The next step is Brown shoots at White. 2 times out of three, White is dead. If Brown misses, then White gets another shot - again a 1/3 chance of success. And if he misses, Brown gets another shot and (probably) will kill him. White's odds of survival are about 1 in 9 (1 in 3 chance of surviving, multiplied by the 1 in 3 chance of killing Brown).

Scenario 3: White misses. Brown shoots at Black - if he hits, Black is dead and White gets the next shot. If he misses, then Black's next move is to shoot Brown and kill him and White gets the next shot. White has a 1 in 3 chance of killing Black, so White's odds of survival in this scenario are 1 in 3.
