More fun with similar email names...

Someone wrote amazon.ca to complain that their order hadn't arrived. That person's email is similar to the one I use with amazon but theirs has a "3" at the end. I got an email saying that the order was placed with a different email ("3") and that they couldn't help because the customer used an email address without the "3" to contact them. I got that email.

There's no way the customer could have used my email since I have full control of it. I suspect someone in India or the Philippines misread it and wrote to me in error.

That was early afternoon yesterday. I wrote back to let them know that they had written to me in error. I thought that would take care of it.

I started to get apology email about my hacked account. I wrote back, several times, that, no, it's OK, I'm not hacked, you just wrote to the wrong email. Please contact your customer directly at the email in their account.

Those were all with amazon.ca.

This morning I got an email from amazon.com. They locked my account, canceled all open orders and told me that I should check with my financial institution about a stolen credit card. They also, somewhat snidely, informed me that they were not responsible for the hack because no one else can access my account, that any stolen information came from outside amazon.

I recovered control of my account but cannot see the orders they canceled - they're just gone. They gave me a list of dollar amounts for the last 5 orders I placed, which I'm trying to match with confirmation emails. I've located 2 orders only and have written back IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I'M VERY PISSED RIGHT NOW, telling them what maroons they are and asking for the specific items they canceled.

I will give them a couple of hours to respond before I call them. Whoever is on the other end of that line will wish they had stayed home today.
