Not familiar with the combining reservations option, but would totally do it

The only risk I can think of is if you do NOT do it. If you don't combine/link the reservations and there are IRROPS (delays/cancelations/whatever) two of you could rebooked on one flight and the other two on a different flight. Combining them should hopefully keep the four of you together.
