I was just looking at those posts - definitely what you said. it varies by state; but it can be as simple as a hand-written will, for that part.

I looked into it before I had my hip replacement surgery, as it was only major one that I actually knew I was having a decent amount of time in advance; and, in CA, hand-written was the fastest/easiest way to go for me. I told my mom and closest sister I'd done it and where it was - I also included logins for my major accounts. (note to self: update to add condo and update passwords!)
I also have beneficiaries tagged for my biggest accounts and work-paid life insurance.
my goal was/is to make there not be a question of what I want to happen, to make it as easy as possible for those I leave behind. I don't trust all of my siblings equally, for example, about, oh, anything; and I know from experience that having anything financial in the mix can make sane people less than sane, so add in some people with actual mental illness and yikes.
