That is pretty much THE reason the GOP candidate is tanking.

In the debate (or town hall? was not watching) the other day, the GOP candidate was asked, if Menendez is found guilty, would she appoint Christie to be Senator to replace him. (She wisely provided an emphatic no to the effect of "Absolutely not, that was easy" but she's clearly tethered to him in voters' eyes)
