I went to my first ever live opera performance this weekend

Verdi's Otello. Really nice. Small, well-preserved historic theater in Santa Monica. Would love to go back there sometime for anything. Insanely well-located (I mean, it is walking distance from Bay Cities Deli. But I digress). Local opera company founded recently. Comped because my discount ticketing service is the tits (it's the same service where I got my cheap Green Day tix). Full orchestra. Large chorus. Great soloists. Superscripts.

I've really been into orchestras lately, so I am getting to enjoy musical theater now. Since I moved, I've been investigating smaller/alternative arts organizations. You could see a lot of great stuff here for not that much coin. My next ticketed event besides Patton Oswalt this weekend is New West Symphony with a program of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff (also comped).
