I think people are "trained" to use either their lizard brain (amygdala, where fear/fight or flight operates) or a higher part of the brain

the mammal brain which nurtures/heals. Anyway, you learn these habits of how to respond to distress as a child. You don't seem to me as a person who resorts to fight or flight/panic etc. as a matter of course. Your brain has been trained/conditioned to use something higher. Although with too many people, they've learned that panic/fear/lashing out is the response.
I recently read some research along these lines in a self-help book.
