You’ve heard of the War on Christmas, but have you heard of the War of Halloween? It’s a freaking arms race out there.

The decorations get bigger, the hand outs get bigger, and the hauls get bigger. Not that I’m upset or anything, but how long before the candy is supplants by toys? Already there’s some little trinkets and baubles in their hauls, as well as (rather smartly) water bottles. My kids had their biggest Halloween ever, and I gave out more candy than ever. The costumes are getting more elaborate, as are the displays. I’m sure people soon will start lamenting the dollars spent and suggest we could give to charity instead. I’m OK being at the pinnacle of this arms race.
