He played in the Mexican League the winter before we called him up.

He became a true folk hero down there. He heads down to Venezuela, wrecks everybody, causes Carlos Zambrano to melt down (admittedly not the hardest thing to do), and heads back to Spring Training with 10x as much confidence. He knew that no matter what happened with Atlanta, he'd always have a winter job in Venezuela. That sounds crazy for a ballplayer but given his life, job security was a really big deal to him.
