That’s so sad to hear. You know, just because they volunteer doesn’t mean you have to employ their services.

An acquaintance of mine is director of the local humane society. They have a thrift store run by volunteers and she - my friend - employed a consulting firm and with ther input, the board decided to hire on a full time manager for the thrift store. The volunteers made a lot of noise and the newspaper ran a couple of stories on their complaints. In the end, the humane society is making some moves to further the business and the volunteers are being disruptive to those ends and some of them were asked not to return.
Long story short: if you’re spending more time managing them than they’re earning the historical society, it’s time to wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
