I want a more truthful number that doesn't leave out so many people that aren't working.

For example, they ignore people that can't find a job and give up but those people aren't retired or not in need of a job they're just frustrated and stopped actively looking. They're still not participating in the economy. I believe there's a number for that but it's not usually given or discussed.
They most certainly should be reporting and discussing the wage levels, that's a no-brainer. But when I see the unemployment number dropping I have to wonder if it's because so many more people are getting jobs or if it's a combination of many reasons like less people being counted as they drop out of actively looking.
