The Florida Project. I was impressed. It is a low-budget slice-of-life indie dramedy, and let's face it: this kind of film is pretty common these days. This one is set apart because it is unbashedly well-directed and has a high attention to composition, editing and detail throughout. This to me gives it a certain amount of rewatchability. For STers who choose to watch this, I did find the first act hard to watch. I would just say stick with it, because it doess build up to something good.
Blade Runner 2049. How do I say this without triggering a lot of vitriol... I did not "get" the original, and I did watch multiple versions of it. That includes, I believe, the Final Cut in the theater. I think it's just one of the least accessible sci-fi film series in existence. I trust there is no argument on that point. That said, someone (maybe it was here) described 2049 as "an experience." That is how I chose to approach watching this film, and I was pretty pleased. A sound and vision experience. This is an extremely well-crafted film. The almost 3 hours running time did fly by. I was also happy to see a big budget artistic vision being released by a major studio. I want to watch it again. If I have questions about the plot/WTF is going on, I will spoil myself with the wikipedia plot synopsis. My biggest gripe might be that I do not know why I should care about that admittedly interesting world.
