I think he's the only one that would keep it. There are a few reasons. The biggest being that it was something different and (to him) neat. He thought he could use it to impress the new girl. He was also a bit alone. It seems obvious that Mike and Will were best friends. When he wasn't with Will, Mike was pining for Eleven. Will wasn't really allowed to do anything. I can't remember why he couldn't just hang with Lucas.
