It just runs the risk of the "what aboutism" that John Oliver addressed so well on Sunday.

It distracts from addressing the bad behavior of those currently under the microscope by raising past people (who may still have an overall positive reputation) that seem to have gotten away with similar behavior. Yes, it's an interesting discussion, but when these other things are going on it becomes a sort of defense to their bad behavior.
