Does anyone have a new Fire HD8? Wondering how it is.

I really, really like the size of my iPad mini (it's perfect) but Apple has decided I'm weird and basically discontinued the Mini. My Mini 2 is really slow on iOS 11 and it's probably time to upgrade. $49 on Black Friday sounds good but is it a decent device?
