"I would appreciate it if you could let us know if there has been any progess on the Application (that you are invoicing us for.)"

Something like 'Application at hand", or "Application currently under discussion" or something.

(it is the company working on a trademark issue for us, and they keep billing us but they don't seem to be actually doing anything.)
