is getting the Model 3 to a high enough production rate that creditors are happy and customers are still patient.
I knew going in to my day-of Model 3 reservation that the wait would be ~2 years. It was clear *that day* that deliveries wouldn't even begin to happen until July 2017. And those would just be to employees.
The majority of Tesla "fans" understand that this is a new company trying new ways of doing things (Model 3 assembly is WAY more automated than traditional makers work). And "Tesla Time" is a real thing that is also accepted. It's not "if" something will happen, just "when". A lag between initial proposed timeline and actual timeline is expected.
The 3 is actually ahead of its initial proposed timeline. 2020 was the original year Tesla expected to produce 500,000 units. That got bumped up to 2018 when they received 400,000 reservations for the 3 in less than a month. They're around 450,000-475,000 reservations right now.
