I don't understand the battery in my iPhone since iOS 11.

Initially after the upgrade to iOS 11, the battery life on my 5S was horrible. The updates since then have helped noticeably. Today I did a Turkey Trot 5K. I was was at 75% capacity per the phone. I had started my music and then launched Runkeeper. Runkeeper launched and then my phone died within 20 seconds. After I finished and got home, I plugged the phone into the charger and when it came up it was immediately at 73%.
