did you have other apps open maybe?

we had a similar thing with my daughter's tablet, battery would run down to nothing but when I plugged in to charge would say she had like 50% of the battery.
She was leaving all her apps open so we think that must have been draining it or something as once we closed down all the stuff she had open it has worked OK since.
