seriously its mostly how good your lawyer is...even if you are the good guy, shoot somebody and you're gonna need a lawyer

yeah he was a dirt bag who jumped in your car while you were parking, pushed you out and was driving off with your month's salary in your wallet, tools of your trade, but he was no longer a threat to you at that point.
now a cop can shoot if for any reason, even rampant racist paranoia, that you might, possibly be threatening, could be a gun in your pocket, if you drive toward them whatever, they pay the lawyers
but you are on your own, though I do believe there is a liability insurance you pay, overall I think health insurance will be more helpful
