Eli is set to make $21M next year and they are already OVER the cap for 2018.Can't trade Eli unless he doesn't want to be there...so you embarrass him

Hurt the franchise in the short-term for the long-term gain.
They did it in an idiotic fashion, and it was hugely disrespectful, but they got what they wanted.
