It may have amplified things, but it's probably just basic human instinct that we want to avoid direct challenge on this type of thought.

It's not like the average person was more intellectual curious or open-minded in the decades preceding the media boom of the 90's.

Sure, and I think too that many people are more challenged on an everyday basis today than they were in previous generations.

I agree, I just don't think the forums were as easily available. So the result was more balanced information that people saw. On a personal level
