fwiw, when posting below, my first thought was that he can afford to get caretakers; but, really, with elderly parents, that isn't necessarily enough.

I actually looked then to see if he's an only child and found only that he was adopted, no mention of other siblings. if it wasn't for all the other stuff involved, he might be more believable. the timing, though, and what was going on, is obviously more suspect than it would be for someone without all the rest.
