I'm unsure what Johnson's point was ultimately. It appeared that he was making the argument that the Jedi were unnecessary, that the force existed regardless and it would always be accessible in people like Rey. Yoda said so explicitly.

Then they show the texts on the Falcon, which deflates the entire point. Are we to believe Rey will start a new Jedi academy?

The first idea is infinitely more interesting to me in terms of translating Star Wars for a new generation.
