I'm confident that the reason why I enjoyed it more than Star Wars diehards is that I could have cared less about any of those story resolutions. The people who spent countless hours arguing about the true natures of Snoke and Phasma are right to feel annoyed. But I've seen JJ Abrams work enough to know that he creates and then discards major story arcs at the drop of a hat. I never expected satisfactory resolution; ergo (14!), I'm not disappointed. They added a new character that was great, which is more than I could have reasonably hoped for/expected.
