I'm just going to take a moment to post a somewhat "whoa is me" post.

Its promotion time here. Mainly its the corporate promotions, meaning from the Supervisory positions to Managers.

Again this year I get to watch people in there 20s get promoted to manager. People that I now have to report to going forwards.

They get this because of hard work and dedication on their part, but form also having someone (a manager or partner) take an interest in their career and spend time developing them.

While for another year my career resembles a hot potato, being tossed between groups, never finding a fit because the managers would rather train an impressive a young staff than someone their age, or older.

I work my ass off, and yet no matter how hard I work I will always be second fiddle to people who joined this firm out of college and who instantly have someone that career development path. I work on the jobs they dont want, because it would "hurt their careers" or "isnt their industry focus", yet those jobs are opportunities the firm wants.

I on the other hand joined because of a need (that no one wanted to fill) but always have been the afterthought.

its been 4 years here, maybe its time to seriously start looking for something else. I have no idea what that something else would be anymore, because I would have a similar problem if I looked at other smaller firms, competing with 20 something year olds who didnt like the high hours/higher pay of the big national/regional firms.
