So, I'm pretty sure I got screwed (and not in the good way).

Another supervisor and I have clearly been the top two candidates for a manager position for a while. In October of last year, the other supervisor took a position in another department. This was in the latter stages of a major implementation project that she had a role in. Without giving up any of my other responsibilities, I took on that role as well.
Earlier this month, a manager position came open and the other supervisor got the job over me. No one will be able to convince me that the opportunity to "have their cake and eat it too" by getting her back in the department while still keeping me was not the major determining factor in the end.
So the lesson I'm taking is that she made herself more valuable by leaving the department and I did not help my case by remaining loyal and taking on more responsibility. So I guess it might seem bitter, but I really think I should be looking for other opportunities at this point.
