I thought wins are what mattered, not "Rating" or "actual yards or TDs".

The 33-year-old QB you're slagging was 50-26 as a Chief.
Kirk Cousins is 26-30-1.
Those numbers reflect what PFF's grading shows, which is that Alex Smith is an upper tier QB while Cousins is slightly below average among starters.
Cousins did that while playing with someone who looks to have a beautiful mind as a playcaller. You say "At best, Alex Smith and Cousins are equals." That's true in that the BEST version of Cousins is what Alex Smith is right now, which is also the everyday version of Smith.
Upgrading at QB isn't what should you concern you about this deal. It's ceding a topflight corner, as those are rare. It's also the price you had to pay to avoid doing something stupid with Cousins.
