He already had the ring when they made the deal. What happened with Brock Osweiler is the best way to bargain.

They set a price, he went around the league trying to beat it, he found suckers willing to overpay him, and they promptly regretted it.
Barnwell at ESPN is saying that Cousins' agent has told teams that he expect to be the highest paid QB in the league. Washington was right to find other options. The mistake they made was not extending him or trading him either of the previous years.
